Clearfield was one of the last communities to be settled in the north part of Davis County. It used to be called Sandridge because of the lack of water availability. The area was first settled by an emigrant couple from England. The Hamblin family was originally living in Layton until they decided that wanted to make their own home in what is now known as Clearfield.

Some of the locals favorite things to do in this area are visiting the Hill Aerospace Museum, SeaQuest Utah, and Antelope Island State Park. Hill Air Force Base is located within the city limits.
